2012 NBYA FRAC results - March 4, 2012
The Frozen Few from Edgewood extended their season to include an open invitation to all the other frostbite racers around the Bay for the jointly sponsored NBYA/Edgewood "FRAC" regatta, for Frostbite Racing in All Classes.
As the Race Committee, Stuart indicated that the light wind was unmeasurably light on his gauge, which read zero knots most of the time. During one race, the boats were completely stopped in front of the start line by about one boat length. Race committee indicating that sailors were "all clear" and could start the race "anytime now,"...if only boats could move! In the second race, the winner for the day headed off toward the wrong mark as other skippers tiptoed the other way. In the third race, Race Committee was shouting out finishes in a rapid fire when there were five racers all catching the same downwind breeze and heading for the finish line practically shoulder to shoulder!
Everyone enjoyed the astounding light air tactics displayed in this special finalé of the 2011-2012 Frostbite season at Edgewood.
The event made the front page of The Cranston Herald, with a short story and lively gallery of photos, praising the support in prizes from several Narragansett Bay sponsors that included the local Doyle Sails, Team One, and Laser Performance.
In the results for the day, Ray W took first place, Dave S was second, and Catherine walked away with silver for the first time, by scoring a third for the day!
Chili, good food, hot chocolate, short speeches, and a "Thank you Sponsors, and Thank you Race Committee!" followed at the cottage.
At the end of the day, Sunfish racers paused to take the annual "Frozen school photo" at the gate. Four races completed, (T,W,G,T).
Sunfish and Laser racing will continue, Wednesdays in June.
