This Week

A busy week in Edgewood. Fund-raiser planning for June 1 now includes  a stay at Newport’s Rose Island Lighthouse and art photographs of the local scenery up for silent auction.  

Sadly, we also rang eight-bells to mark the passing of ESS Volunteer and Tutor, David Warner.

Meanwhile, last weekend two more 420s have arrived for use in the Youth Program this summer.  Also  Edgewood Volunteers on the road met fifty new people at the all-day show with a Rhodes19 at EMS/TraderJoe's.The fleet was launched Thursday of last week, rigged on Friday and the adult-community program Tutor training and classes started over the weekend.

Now, as we look ahead, registrations, schedules, and uncharacteristic "wait lists" have everyone's attention as we cast off for the 2013 season!

Edgewood takes to the Eastern Mountain Sports - sailing near Trader Joe's

No more flamingos -- Volunteers take a Rhodes-19 to EMS and Trader Joe's to hoist sails and meet new friends, some very small, all feeling that spring-time urge to go sailing.  Visitors compliment the School and promise support.  For photos from the day, a video and more, read on.

Snow days cause Strong early registration adult and youth fills more classes

Winter left-over "snow" days have pushed strong early Youth registrations that have forced "waiting list" holds.  If the Sailing School's Youth schedule cannot be expanded, then Youth Cruising and most of the Starter Sailor classes are available and offer some alternatives.  Adult regisratrations are now strong for the first month's classes, and less jammed in July.      For photos and more, read on.

420s move into Edgewood

Another pair of boats have jumped on the rack.  Sailing School has added two race-ready 420s, rigged and prepped to the Fleet.  The boats came in by trailers (brief stop for a new tire or two along the way) over the weekend, and will be launched and available for the beginning 420 class next month.    For photos of the new 420s and more, read on.

R19s and whalers hit the surf

Two 17-foot Boston Whalers, and four of the Sailing School's Rhodes-19 keelboats hit the surf on Thursday (5/7) evening.  As in the past, this is the true beginning of the summer sailing season, and the fruit of major time and effort from Volunteers and Staff.  Boats were rigged and sea trials began this weekend.    For more photos and highlights of this year's launch, read on.
