420 EDGEWOOD SAILORS - Field Trip TO ZIM SAILING - Jan30 at 4:30pm

ESS Field Trip to Zim Sailing -- Learn About 420 Construction and Rigging

On Friday, January 30, at 430pm, Zim Sailing is hosting an Edgewood Sailing School off-season “Field Trip.” We’ll hear from the Zim production staff about what it takes to build a 420 like the one ESS purchased from Zim last fall. We will learn about the strengths and weaknesses of 420 design and construction, and we’ll also learn something about 420 rigging. If you have never been to the Zim Sailing facility in Warren, this is a great chance to take a peek inside a terrific local boatbuilder’s shop. Zim is also providing some pizza!

Please let George Shuster (george@edgewoodsailing.org / 9179758650) know if you have questions, or to let us know that you’re able to attend. We’d like to give Zim a sense of how many people to expect. 420 sailors and parents, and younger sailors who may be moving up to 420s in the coming years, are welcome. We’re happy to help provide rides from Edgewood or as otherwise may be convenient, if that is helpful to anyone. The Zim Sailing facility is at 84 Cutler Street in Warren – take 114S or 136S from I-195, turn left (from 114S) or right (from 136S) on to Child Street, then right (coming from 114S) or left (coming from 136S) on to Cutler Street. Go behind the brick mill buildings to the end, and Zim is in the yellowish newer building.

 PS ---

TICKETS FOR YOUR NEXT SUNFISH may be "in the mail".  The chances for winning are still wonderful.  As the number of tickets remaining dwindles, the odds of winning are slightly, but only slightly, dipping.  Still, that's maybe your Sunfish looking for a new home, and plenty of spring and summer racing possible after the boat lands.

YEAR-END MATCH is stretched out to include through January 18.  We're up to a bit over $800 now, and our patient and generous anonymous donor has agreed to give us two weeks more on the match, so it's still possible that if we can raise $1000, the Sailing School will receive a matching thousand, for a total of $2000 toward the 2015 program costs.  That's half a 420, or an entire Opti, or a new set of sails for a couple of Rhodes19s, if we can raise our part by the day of the big Raffle, on Sunday January 18.
Click to donate and help ESS $1000 become $2000.
