Warm weather and gusty winds - Frostbite racing results for 11/20

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

The temperatures continue to be uncharacteristically warm with temperatures around 60 degrees again for this Sunday's Sunfish racing at Edgewood. Starting from the Southwest and gradually becoming more westerly as the day went on, the wind was variable with strong gusts that kept all the sailors guessing what would happen next as they made their way around the course. Andrew finished first for the day and Dave W. in second. Jeff L. finished with a clear third for the day. Stuart on the race committee ran five races, (T,W2,O,G,T2).

The Frozen Few received news from our neighboring fleet in Barrington via Eric Woodman, New England Rep to the USSCA.

They are halfway through the fall Frostbiting season at Barrington and the weather and competition has been great there too. Eric commented on the surprising weather to say, "Not exactly what you’d expect for Frostbiting but we’ll take it! I hope you can get a chance to come race, or just stop by to say 'hi!'"

So far, in Barrington's racing results, Bill Brangiforte holds a slim lead over Andy David while Ken Charles is in 3rd. Les Johnston leads in the B fleet over Doris Aschman.

Last week the Barrington fleet were joined by Juan Delgado, one of the top Sunfish racers in the world. Juan, a native of Guatemala, is in medical school in Boston and decided to come test himself on the Barrington River.

Bill Brangiforte wrote another great article for Words of Wisdom about what he learned watching Juan last week.
