"Evening By the Bay" to raise funds for 2013

The Board of the Sailing School is offering an "Evening By the Bay" fund-raiser, June 1st.  Friends will remember a previous evening in May of the first year of recovery 2011.  This year, 2013, the focus includes a silent auction of dazzling items including a family over-night in the refurbished Rose Island lighthouse near the Newport Bridge, and a list of other enchanting or enlightening items.   Reservations and ticket details are posted at the By The Bay information page.

Since the fire, Edgewood - both the Sailing School and the Yacht Club - have been moving up hill. For the Sailing School, the process brought a complete make-over of the equipment.  Although the hulls and motors evaded the destruction, everything else had to be replaced.  And now the motors need attention

.The kind support and continuing generous donations from all quarters, and particularly from the Rhode Island maritime industry, positions Edgewood Sailing School in enviable prominence as a center for "enjoying and teaching the art of sailing."  As the Edgewood family enjoys that place, it is becoming increasingly clear that with the gifts comes responsibility.

A fresh effort to make Edgewood Sailing School scholarships even more available to a changing population, a keen eye towards the need for up-dating equipment, motors and boats for teaching and safety, and a careful attention to the fiduciary responsibility of caring and wisely using resources, all bears down on the amount of revenue from Tuitions.  Realistically, tuitions alone don't carry the whole load.

The pressure is back on to renew and expand our support.  For that purpose, the Sailing School will again offer an evening fund-raiser event, kindly hosted and provisioned by George and Stephanie Shuster, one of our Sailing School families.
