Get “Big White” Back on the Water!

Edgewood Sailing School needs your help to get “Big White” back on the water!

This year, Edgewood Sailing School was proud to send 4 of its best Optimist sailors to the Halloween Howl regatta at Sail Newport on October 25 & 26. The kids did a terrific job in tough conditions. On Saturday, October 25, they were sailing between Goat Island and Rose Island in gusts well over 20 knots -- resulting in the cancellation of the day’s races, dozens of capsized boats, a visit from the Coast Guard, and the ESS crew’s participation in a rescue effort that included pulling Optis from the jaws of Goat Island’s rip-rap. All of the kids got back to shore safely and without injury, and the ESS skippers returned for a full day of races on Sunday. But our workhorse coach boat, “Big White,” found a rock while gathering up the kids, and suffered a destroyed lower unit. That’s a $2500 repair cost for ESS – a cost that was unexpected and well outside the usual repair budget.

We’re hopeful that you can help! If you’re able, please make a donation to Edgewood Sailing School to help get “Big White” back in the waves for the 2014 season…

If a number of our friends and supporters can give $25, $50, or $100, we’ll have the lower unit repaired in no time. You can send a check to Edgewood Sailing School, P.O. Box 25641, Cranston, RI 02905, or you can donate on line at www.edgewoodsailing.org. We’ll let you know our progress in the coming weeks!

If you have questions, please feel free to call or email George Shuster, President of ESS, at george@edgewoodsailing.org.

Many thanks, and happy holidays, from your friends at Edgewood Sailing School.
