This Week
Soirée, the boats are back, "wait for us"
SOIREE
A fine Saturday evening is ahead which will swing the Sailing School family into spring. Saturday May 30, Soiree By The Bay 2015. The whole ESS family is invited for refreshments, a challenging "silent auction" of things "remarkable and useful", and a chance to catch up with friends.
The party this year supports the Youth program and the Adult & Community Programs of the Sailing School – for 2015 and beyond.
Highlights of the Silent Auction so far includes a detail drawing from a 100-year-old plat book showing the Edgewood Yacht Club and all the nearby streets, framed for display.
Great location and a fine evening ahead.
RSVP $50/person.
EDGEWOOD BOATS ARE BACK & GOING TO NEWPORT-VOLVO
Covers are off boats now, thanks to a half-dozen Saturday Volunteers. The usual tasks have been pushed ahead, with the help of youth sailor families, so that the donated coach-boat Mary Ann can be cleared and painted in time for the May 9 Youth Newport Challenge, and Volvo Ocean Race visit.
This year, so far, two Edgewood Youth sailors have signed up for the regatta in Newport and Mary Ann will be going along to provide support. Edgewood will be in both the red and the blue Opti fleets on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, the sailors and their families visit the Volvo Village.
WE'RE COMING, WAIT, WAIT FOR US ADULTS
Youth registrations have been very brisk this year, and now the Adult & Community Program is joining in. Adult classes were web-posted this week, and have already started to sign in students. Also, for the first time, there will be an "Alumni" pre-season class to reach back and re-enroll adult sailors from as early as 2001. This marks the fifteenth year of the expanded adult sailing classes.
An award is being offered to the earliest alum sailor in this year's pre-season class. A special email is going out to the Alums. Details will be coming out on the Sailing School website, tellling all about the pre-season Alum Brush-Up, the prize, and the other family- and adult-sailing classes in this summer's program.
