Starter Sailor
YOU ROCK! School of Music (full day)
For our younger and/or first-time sailors, the morning will be spent learning first hand the fun of sailing. Our young new sailors will learn about boats, experience sailing with instructors and begin to develop a comfort level with boats. Following a morning of sail, the youngsters will walk to the neighboring YOU ROCK! School of Music.
YOU ROCK! is a fun new collaboration! On Monday you get to the facility and start a band. You name the band and write an original song. Wednesday the kids tie dye their shirts, Thursday there are band photos. Friday there is a performance for parents/friends!
Full day classes meet Monday through Friday 9:00 (drop-off at Edgewood Sailing School) to 4:00 pm (pick-up at YOU ROCK! School of Music, 1802 Broad Street, Cranston). Morning-only classes are available below and end at 12 noon at Edgewood Sailing School.
This program is being run in cooperation between Edgewood Sailing School and the YOU ROCK! School of Music in Cranston, Rhode Island.

Starter Sailor
Save The Bay discovery (full day)
For our younger and/or first-time sailors, the morning will be spent learning first hand the fun of sailing. Our young new sailors will learn about boats, experience sailing with instructors and begin to develop a comfort level with boats. Following a morning of sail, the youngsters will take a boat ride to the neighboring Save The Bay Center for a fun-filled afternoon of Bay-centered activities, fostering a love of Narragansett Bay in our youngest bay-stewards, featuring, for example, bay-exploration, playing the role of lobsterman for the day, or learning about creatures of the bay!
Full day classes meet Monday through Friday 9:00 (drop-off at Edgewood Sailing School) to 4:00 pm (pick-up at Save The Bay Center, Fields Point, 100 Save The Bay Drive, Providence). Morning-only classes are available below and end at 12 noon at Edgewood Sailing School.
Note that Save the Bay requires a minimum of 6 students for their afternoon ecology program. If fewer than 6 students sign up for this session, then afternoon activities will be at the Sailing School.

Starter Sailor

For our younger and/or first-time sailors, the morning will be spent learning first hand the fun of sailing. Our young new sailors will learn about boats, experience sailing with instructors and begin to develop a comfort level with boats.
Classes meet half-day Monday through Friday 9:00 to noon (drop-off and pick up at Edgewood Sailing School).
A corresponding afternoon program is being offered through You Rock School of Music. The program is from 1–4 pm, and we will transport the students from ESS to You Rock! Spaces are limited. If your child would like to participate in You Rock! afternoon activities, register at www.yourockschoolofmusic.com, and look for the “Edgewood Sailing” option during registration.

Opti Beginner
fundamentals sailing the Optimist pram
Opti basic is an introductory course for young students who feel comfortable piloting a single-handed dinghy. Students will learn the fundamentals of rigging, upwind sailing, racing, and starting. This class is typically held in groups of 6-10 students, and prior experience in our Starter Sailor course is encouraged.

Opti Intermediate
more skills sailing and racing the Opti
Opti Intermediate builds on the basics, introduces more independent sailing at the intermediate level, including the fundamentals of better boat handling and racing. An additional fee (payable to NBYA) is required, if attending the NBYA Opti Regatta #3 on July 31.

Opti Race Clinic
advanced coaching & practice for regattas and NBYA RACE WEEK
This is an intense program to polish racing boat-handling skills in preparation for end of season regattas. Sailor must demonstrate the ability to sail at his/her experience level in an NBYA large-fleet regatta, and be up for both joining the training and participating in the NBYA "JUNIOR OLYMPICS" RACE WEEK .
Schedule is organized during weeks leading up to Race Week. An additional fee (payable to NBYA) is required for attending this NBYA regatta event, and other charges may apply.
Enrollment requires approval from the Instructor.
(Registration will be "wait-list" only, until student receives Instructor's approval.)

420 Basic/Refresher

420 Intermediate/Refresher
Boathandling skills are honed in the c420 racing dinghy. Confident, capable sailors learn how to sail a double-handed dinghy, both as a skipper and as crew. The older young sailors will experience thrill of sailing a faster boat with trapezes and spinnakers. Sailors work a full day of weather options, including the brisker afternoon winds, allowing for introduction of the more demanding performance. Additional regatta fees may apply for July 8 NBYA 420#1, Newport Regatta (7/14-15), and possibly NBYA#2. (Details furnished on-line by regatta organizers.)

Junior Race Week
NBYA RACE WEEK
This is a class for students participating in the NBYA Junior Race Week. This class covers coach fees as well as boat usage fees.
An additional fee (payable to NBYA) is required for attending this NBYA regatta event.
Enrollment requires approval from the Administrator. (Registration will be "wait-list" only, until student receives Administrator's approval.)
