Frostbite Racing
2020-2021 Notice of Race

Sunfish races are scheduled at Edgewood Yacht Club on Sundays from November 1, 2020 through March 28, 2021 except for the last two Sundays in December. There is also a special race on New Year's Day. The Race Committee will generally provide a mid-morning emailed weather advisory, and will try to start 5 – 6 races each race day, starting promptly at 11:00 am, and ending around 1:30 pm. There will be two scored Series (Fall and Spring). The Full Season will be scored as a series consisting of all the races in the two series, but not including the New Year's Day Regatta.

Pandemic Procedures

New procedures are in place to maintain the safety of the skippers and race committee.

  • Do not come to racing if you or a member of your household is sick, or you are under quarantine.
  • If you become sick and have raced in the past two weeks, notify the race committee.
  • State regulations require everyone at the club to sign in and out using the clipboard under the clubhouse.
  • All participants must wear a face mask while on the docks and when near other people. Face masks are not required while sailing. You may want to bring a waterproof bag or container to keep your mask dry while sailing.
  • Maintain social distance on the docks. This may mean waiting for others to rig or launch their boats before rigging your own. You can rig your boat and sail it to an empty slip to wait for the start of racing. Similarly, take turns stowing your boat at the end of the day. If you are able, arrive early to rig your boat and make room for others.
  • We have permission to store boats on the Moses Brown docks in addition to the Sunfish racks. This will allow us to spread out and reduce contact between skippers.
  • The club will provide hand sanitizer on the T-dock and near the Sunfish racks. Please clean your hands before and after touching common surfaces or assisting with the equipment of other sailors.
  • Failure to abide by these rules may result in a warning, disqualification for the day, or disqualification for the season, at the discretion of the race committee.

We are also lowering our wind threshold to reduce capsizes and the need for close contact between skippers and the safety boat.

These procedures may be amended during the season to comply with updated state regulations and best practices.

Winter boat storage

Entry:

  • Skippers may introduce themselves and race one day without Racing Fee being charged.
  • There is no Racing Entry Fee charged for the New Year's Day Regatta.
  • All fees must be paid, storage contracts executed, boat hulls, spars and gear labeled, and winter-storage EYC dock sticker received, before the boat or gear may be stored at EYC, and before the skipper may race.
  • Awards will be made to the top finishers for the Season, as well as for the individual Series.

Registration and Skipper’s Responsibilities: Each participant must register online and digitally sign a waiver of liability before racing. Each skipper will accept responsibility for his or her own safety during racing and for deciding whether or not to race. Skippers will realize that winter sailing presents hazards of exposure, and will dress appropriately for weather and water temperatures and will be prepared for immersion. All skippers are required to wear life jackets while on the water. Wet/dry suits are highly recommended.

Rules: International Sailing Federation The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 (RRS), US Sailing Association prescriptions, Sunfish Class Rules, this Notice of Race, and the posted Sailing Instructions will govern the racing.  RRS Rule 44.2 is changed.
