Edgewood Sailing School youth instructor quarantine Tuesday July 7

I am writing to inform you that one of our 420 Intermediate instructors has been self-quarantining since Monday, July 6, 2020, at 9:00 PM. This person, who has no symptoms, self-reported that they were recently indirectly exposed to an asymptomatic person who tested positive for COVID-19. The instructor has a testing appointment this Wednesday morning, July 8 (the first available for someone without symptoms).

Per our state-approved COVID-19 plan, the instructor will not return to ESS until one of the following three criteria are met:

They have a negative COVID-19 test.
They test positive but have met RIDOH guidelines for ending self-quarantine (14 days).
They have a doctor’s note tying symptoms to a medical condition other than COVID-19.

The first question I’m sure you have is how does this affect my sailor and my family. Our state-approved COVID-19 plan has all of our sailing classes isolated into distinct, stable pods. If your sailor is in any class other than 420 Intermediate, you should have a high degree of confidence that there was almost no chance of your sailor being within 14 feet of the instructor.

ALL instructors must wear a cloth face covering while interacting with their pods, and all do their best to maintain social-distancing in general. Therefore, even if your sailor is in a 420 Intermediate class, it is highly unlikely any exposure occurred.

Highlights of our state-approved COVID-19 plan:

Distinct pods are isolated by at least 14 feet from other pods during shore learning activities.
All sailors and staff are prompted and required to wear face coverings when moving about the facility.
Frequent, professional cleaning occurs throughout the day of all bathrooms, high-touch areas, and each pod area.
Hand sanitizer is available in each pod area, as well as soap and water in the bathrooms.
