R19s and whalers hit the surf

MaryAnn, a 17-foot Boston Whaler which was a gift from the Miller family,  was the support boat to launch the School's newly buffed-up Rhodes 19s.

The launch, on Thursday evening was generously hoisted by volunteers at nearby Rhode Island Yacht Club, and got the Sailing School adults back on the water in time to be rigged and equiped to start sailing on the weekend.

Edgewood Tutor-training began with boat handling to dodge raindrops on Saturday and Sunday all day long.

The first class in the adult program (Level 3, Intermediate Boat Handling) starts Tuesday & Thursday.

The launch of the whalers and the Rhodes completes dozens of projects running back to the end of last season.

This spring, from the first weekend in March, the boats received a lot of attention from a dozen Saturday Volunteers who logged major time and effort.

New electical and re-built hull and rail details on the whalers, plus maintenance to the Rhodes trim and controls all add towards presenting the Edgewood fleet "ready ahd able" for sea.

Favorable high tide was at 6 pm on Thursday, so the new running lights on MaryAnn were immediately put to good use in the tow back to Edgewood.
