Volunteers take an Opti to the Zoo in Providence, now a Rhodes 19 to EMS in Warwick
On an invitation from EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) Edgewood Sailing School will trailer in a Rhodes-19 sailboat to the parking lot EMS shares with Trader Joe's on Bald Hill Road in Warwick this Saturday 10-4 and Friday afternoon.
Last week it was an Opti focused for kids. This week a full-rigged Rhodes-19 with an appeal pitched for older youth, for adults and family.
A similar set up was used at our first visit to the Zoo 2011. The Rhodes-19 strikes an eye-catching image that brings folks over to have a chat. It's a great time to meet new sailors and to explain Edgewood Sailing School.
Last week, like old Noah and his family, the Edgewood Sailing School families hosted guests sailing with the kangaroos.
Both these family events demonstrate that The Sailing School is On The Go for 2013!
At the Zoo
They were raising and lowering sails on the Opti (on land) and learning new knot tricks. A whole new generation of young Edgewood Sailors tried out their skills on Wednesday and Thursday. Kids "sailed" in the Opti among the Kangaroos and Flamingos, and practiced some "navigation." Some learned a song or two. They showed their families, parents and friends what they know.
