Raffle for the Sunfish - Thank You !
Good evening -
After nearly one week, the buzz from this past weekend's action is still in the air.
Last Sunday, the Sunfish Raffle came to a glittering finale about 2 o'clock with a stern frisking of the ping-pong balls in the barrel by Henry, and then -- to the silent room -- Ellie drew out the winner.
The winner was ESS third-year youth sailor Aidan - - who was absent because of being in a swim meet in Bristol.
Present or not, all the attention of the thirty Sunfish skippers, raffle attendees, and guests was centered on the Prize: a light-green striped 2015 Sunfish Race, which the raffle, a generous donation, and the help of the builder LaserPerformance had parked on the lawn outside the Club.
Applause to the winner, and to the many families who purchased tickets and helped put several thousand dollars toward launching this year's Edgewood Sailing School programs.
On Sunday Aidan didn't know he'd won. But on Monday he was pretty sure he had.
Read on to see how that news got to Aidan, and to get details of the other main event, the 2015 running of the Up from the Ashes Sunfish Regatta, where in 50 minutes Narragansett Bay had jumped from a flat calm up to spar-bending gusts of 25 knots from the southwest.
Your being part of this Raffle has already made a difference: it's a great start to another year's exciting summer season.
Please accept thanks from all the Sailing School.
