Rigging the Rhodes 19 (main sail only)
- Check for safety equipment (pump, bailer, paddle, anchor, throwable cushion, radio, rudder, sails)
- Pump out the boat if it needs it
- Install the helm (rudder & tiller)
- Confirm that every sail halyard has a figure-eight knot
- Rig the main sail:
- free the boom vang
- free mainsheet (lift boom up to shoulder height)
- unroll the mainsail (flake out on starboard cuddy top)
- uncleat main halyard
- lower boom to deck
- carry halyard to main head-board
- attach halyard to mainsail head-board
- insert the main head-board into the mast sail slot
- pull on halyard to raise the main 2ft on the mast
- cleat the main halyard
- confirm that the sail rope (along luff) is fair from tack to head
- uncleat the main halyard
- confirm that boom is free to run out (main sheet loose, boom not jammed)
- raise the mainsail
- sway up & cleat
- tighten the boom vang
- coil main halyard & stow the sailbag
