YES, WE’RE DOUBLING UP ON THE ESS RIBs IN OUR FLEET!

If you’ve heard the news from Edgewood Sailing School over the past month, you may be wondering, “Are they buying the same powerboat they already have?”  Well, here's the story: the answer is both yes and no.

"Plumb Comfy" was purchased in 2020. It's our first Rigid Inflatable Boat, a red Zodiac we named "Plumb Comfy" in memory of Bill Plumb, a friend and sailor who devoted a huge part of his life to all things Edgewood. The "Plumb Comfy" has proved a terrific addition to the ESS fleet. It is just right and versatile enough to serve both our adult and youth programs. It’s able to act as a faithful transport around the marina to the ESS Rhodes-19s. "Plumb Comfy's" soft but durable outer floatation tubes have absorbed countless “kisses” from ESS youth sailors in their Optis and C420s. It has enough motor-power to drive down the Bay to serve as a coach boat at “away” regattas. And, importantly, it's always been quick to respond to safety issues that arise on the Edgewood Basin.

So, when a generous famiy provided ESS enough “seed money” to pursue another new powerboat purchase in 2023, we immediately turned to Defender Industries again, where we'd bought "Plumb Comfy", and we inquired about a second red Zodiac. Defender was able to offer a slightly larger boat with slightly more power at an attractive price. We jumped for the opportunity to give our "Plumb Comfy" a “big sister.” And we’re eagerly looking forward to launching our new RIB in 2024. (We’re thinking through possible names for her!)  But right now we could still use some more help from you to round out the full purchase price of the new boat.
