The Edgewood Sailing School is a non-profit organization that depends on volunteers and donations. There are many ways you can help us bring the joy of sailing to the residents of Rhode Island.

While student tuition covers the day-to-day operations of the sailing school, we rely on donors to assist us with additional expenses like sails, engines, and boat upgrades. These donations allow us to keep tuition low so that as many families as possible can afford sailing. They also allow us to provide scholarships to families that need tuition assistance.

The Edgewood Sailing School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Off-season maintenance

In the spring and fall off-season, volunteers gather on Saturday mornings to maintain and repair the sailing school fleet. By joining us, you will not only help keep us afloat, but you have the opportunity to learn useful marine skills.

No experience is required. If you are interested in helping, send email to with your interests and we'll add you to our mailing list.

ESS is unique among local sailing schools in providing one-on-one coaching to its adult students. Much of this coaching comes from our tutors — experienced sailors who have been through our program and help new students get started.
